What parents say after the plan is clearer

Feedback from Queensland families we’ve worked with on subjects, medicine entry, scholarships, and more.

Sooooo clear. I don’t understand why schools aren’t this upfront.

Who knows what Mechatronic Engineering is, but if my son wants it, we’re gonna get him there. Thanks team.

We booked expecting a conversation about intense study, sleepless nights, etc, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our son is only in Year 10, and Advait spent most of the hour making him feel comfortable, letting him know that steady practice is more valuable than anything else, and that he should start early. We planned out a roadmap with Meridian and we feel much more confident about the process now.

My daughter decided in Year 12 that she wanted to go after medicine, but it was really a bit late. We had time to register for the UCAT, but she didn’t have enough study time to get a good score. We booked with Meridian towards the end of Year 12 to see if there were any other paths forward, and they helped us with non-UCAT options. She got a 99.95 ATAR and is now thriving in Sydney studying medicine! We had no idea that was even possible without a top UCAT score.

Genuine lifesaver, my son’s school doesn’t seem up-to-date on the latest data. Evie from Meridian is a real gem!

In our case, we only had one real question, whether my daughter should take Maths Methods or General Maths next year, since she’s been getting low Bs or high Cs in Year 9 maths. She was always interested in studying Law, so she wanted to take Legal Studies and Philosophy, but she didn’t know whether she’d be able to achieve the 97.50 ATAR needed for Law at UQ if she took General Maths. Meridian was all over this, and helped us feel confident in her ability to gain entrance to Law with multiple backup options. Weight off our shoulders!

We decided to drop Methods. I wish we’d discovered this service when we were choosing subjects the first time.

Simple, clear advice. They actually made long-term suggestions instead of just validating whatever my daughter suggested like the school did.

Advait from Meridian was very helpful. He gave us a fairly blunt assessment that our daughter’s practice scores weren’t where they needed to be for the universities she’d preferenced, and we had a much longer conversation about the postgraduate route than I’d anticipated. After following our roadmap, she ended up with a provisional offer anyway, but she went into the exam calm and that alone was worth it.

I’m honestly a little ticked off at my son’s school. His guidance counsellor pushed him to take Maths Methods when he’s really set on studying primary education and creative writing, and we really didn’t think that sort of hard maths was necessary. We booked with Meridian and they completely agreed, so we dropped Methods. Evie from Meridian was studying Humanities on a scholarship at UQ and she helped map out a few options that would let my son explore some non-maths subjects that still kept his options open. Every kid is made differently and it was very reassuring to see them understanding that.

Bless his heart, but my son told me virtually nothing about this process. I’m not sure whether his school didn’t explain things clearly, or he just didn’t pay attention, but either way, I was left in the dark. You have to take this stuff into your own hands! It’s far too important to leave to the school or your child’s judgment alone. My son was keen on Engineering at UNSW, and Jim from Meridian was fantastic at validating some of our choices and pushing back against others. I thoroughly recommend booking a consultation, and I know we’ll be back to discuss university pathways and scholarships when the time comes.
